This category is dedicated to the music that Israelis have been producing since the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948.
Much like the Hebrew language itself, Israeli music draws from numerous sources of influence:
It has been, and continues to be inspired by the languages, cultures and music styles of the countries which Jewish artists came to Israel from, as well as global musical genres.
Musicians like Yehuda Poliker (Greek), David Broza (Spanish), Arkadi Duchin (Russian), and Atraf band (Jazz - Latin American) are just a few examples for this.
Another example is one of the pillars of the Israeli music - the genre of מוּזִיקָה מִזְרָחִית - Eastern music - which includes genres of artist of Yemenite origin, Morrocan origin, and other Middle Eastern / African countries, this type of music tends to be extremely happy or extremely melancholic.
Here, you will discover some of the most popular Israeli songs and artists.
The first song, is the one I have found most fitting to introduce this category:
The 1979 Eurovision winner, "Halleluiah," by Gali Atari with Milk & Honey band:
Here are the lyrics of this beautiful song:
Enjoy!
